Eminem is an American rapper, producer, and songwriter. He is accredited for popularizing hip hop in middle America besides being remembered for breaking racial barriers since his music style gave white rappers a breakthrough in popular music. He is the artist behind The Marshall Mathers LP (2000) and the 2002’s The Eminem Show both of which were nominated for the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
Eminem’s Early Life
The American rapper, songwriter, and producer were born on the 17th of October 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He is the son of Deborah Mathers and Marshall Mathers Jr. Eminem’s father, Marshall Mathers Jr. disappeared after he was born leaving behind Eminem with his mother who raised the child single-handedly. His mother never had permanent employment and therefore they had to shift from one place to another, from one school to another while battling with the challenges of life. He attended Lincoln High School in Warren, Michigan, where he dropped out in the ninth grade after he severally failed the exams. After dropping out of school, he hustled a little bit before he ventured into the music industry.
Eminem dated Kim, but their relationship was turbulent from the start. Deborah threw the couple out when he dropped out of school. In 1995, the couple had a daughter named Hailie Jade Scott. The couple broke up and got back together many times, finally marrying just before he left on his first major tour in 1999. They divorced in 2000. They remarried in 2006 before divorcing months later.
After dropping out of school, the young rapper hustled for a while before he dived into the rap music world. “Infinite(1996) was his first independent album. The following year he released The Slim Shady EP (2007) which caught the attention of many and more so producers. Producer Dre was one of the many touches by Eminem’s rap style that he found it inevitable to sign him under his record label, Interscope.
While working with Dre, he released, The Slim Shady LP in 1999 which again was a hit. The rapper climbed up his career ladder releasing several hit albums such as ‘Devil’s Night’ (2001), ‘The Eminem Show’ (2002), and ‘The Marshall Mathers LP’ (2000) among others. The Marshall Mathers LP is one such album that rose him to fame since it sold over 19 million copies worldwide.
